Charities / Scholarships

One of our responsibilities as Masons in Annandale is to improve the community in which we live. Masonic organizations all have charities that they donate time, effort, and money. Within our Elmer Timberman Lodge we have additional specific charities that we support.

College Scholarships

Every year we give scholarships to deserving high school seniors to help them be successful in their college careers. We have a committee, which delivers applications to each of the neighborhood high schools. The Committee then reviews the submitted applications and awards scholarships. Throughout the year, the committee works to raise money for these children. We care about the future of our community and these young students are our future! If you would like more information on the scholarship program, please contact the Scholarship Corporation President, O. McNeil Marple via email at neil.maple@gmail.com.

Masonic Home of Virginia

We also raise money for the Masonic Home of Virginia (MAHOVA) which cares for men and women, so they can enjoy their golden years with proper dignity and happiness. In addition to financial gifts to the home, we have collected over two thousand large print books, video, and audio devices with disks and tapes for their entertainment. We also raised money to purchase a large screen television for their viewing pleasure. Elmer Timberman Lodge has also has started a program to provide a bus for field trips. We care about our Seniors! If you would like more information on MAHOVA, or would like to donate to MAHOVA, please contact our MAHOVA Ambassador, Ridgley E. "Ed" Davis at (703) 354-7495.

We experienced a memorable April Stated Communication. We had the privilege of hosting the DDGM for our Masonic District 1B, RW Grayson L. Koogle; recognized one Brother for 60-years of faithful service to the Fraternity; and witnessed the presentation of the Lewis Jewel to our very own Worshipful Master, WOR Chaz Wilkinson, III.

RW Koogle made his official visit to Elmer Timberman No. 54. What an honor it was to host him. His love of the Craft and the energy he brings with him every where he travels is nothing short of infectious - in a good way of course. RW Koogle shared the Grand Master's vision and mission for Masons in Virginia. In addition, RW Koogle was pleased to present a 60-year Veteran certificate and pin to Bro Claremont L. Pederson.

This Stated Communication was also special for another reason. The Craft was called to refreshment, so family and friends of Worshipful Master Chaz Wilkinson, III, as well as fraternal visitors of several Lodges from Northern Virginia and Shriners from Kena Temple could observe the presentation of the Lewis Jewel. RW Koogle shared with us the history of the Lewis Jewel. After a fantastic history lesson, RW Koogle invited Bro Charles Wilkinson, Jr., JW - the Worshipful Master's father, to assist him in the presentation of the Lewis Jewel to the Worshipful Master. I am sure I am not the only one present that was humbled by the joy of seeing the pride in a father to know his son is walking aright.

Please continue to join us for our Stated Communications, if you are available. The example you set for the younger generation of masons is critical when you attend Lodge.

Sincerely & Fraternally,
Jason M. Himsey
Chaplain, Elmer Timberman No. 54

What a fantastic March Stated Communication. We had the honor of recognizing two of our Brethren for 60-years of faithful service to the Fraternity.

We were expecting District Instructor of Work, WOR Michael J King, for District 1B to join us on this evening; however, he was called away for another engagement. Fortunately, in WOR King's absence, our Marshall, RW John Shroeder, made a wonderful presentation on the life and works of Bro Joseph Fort Newton. Bro Newton contributed greatly to the betterment of the Craft. Most people attribute his work, "The Builder's," as one of his single greatest contributions to mankind. I was so excited about the book that I purchased it as soon as I got home - and now have my own copy.

Also, we will have a Called Communication for the purpose of initiating two candidates as Entered Apprentices on March 26th at 7:00 PM! Please join us if you are available. We could always use the help and support.

Sincerely & Fraternally,
Jason M.
Lodge History

Perceiving the need for a Masonic Lodge in Annandale, a number of Masons who regularly patronized the little 10' x10' post office located in Joe Mettaurers filling station began collecting the signatures of Masons living in Northern Virginia for the purpose of petitioning the Grand Lodge of Virginia to start a new Lodge in Annandale.

In the early 1950's, Annandale was a bedroom community of Washington D. C. Many of the Masons who picked up their mail at the little post office worked for the Federal Government and had relocated to Fairfax County from other locations.

Eighty Masons petitioned the Grand Lodge of Virginia for a charter in December 1952. The future Lodge in Annandale would be named Elmer Timberman Lodge in honor of Right Worshipful J. E. W. Timberman, a prominent and active Mason who operated a drug store in Alexandria, Virginia.

On December 12, 1952, The District Deputy Grand Master Frank McNulty Steadman of Kemper Lodge No. 64, Falls Church, Virginia received the dispensation and charter from the Grand Lodge. The Lodge opened in the North Room of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, Virginia, on December 15, 1952, with Right Worshipful Steadman presiding. Worshipful Charles Calvin Whitmer was installed Worshipful Master by Right Worshipful Brother Timberman, who was also the first person formally received by the new Worshipful Master. Brother Timberman thanked the Lodge and was deeply honored.
