One of our responsibilities as Masons in Annandale is to improve the community in which we live. Masonic organizations all have charities that they donate time, effort, and money. Within our Elmer Timberman Lodge we have additional specific charities that we support.

College Scholarships

Every year we give scholarships to deserving high school seniors to help them be successful in their college careers. We have a committee, which delivers applications to each of the neighborhood high schools. The Committee then reviews the submitted applications and awards scholarships. Throughout the year, the committee works to raise money for these children. We care about the future of our community and these young students are our future! Masonic Home of Virginia

We also raise money for the Masonic Home of Virginia (MAHOVA) which cares for men and women, so they can enjoy their golden years with proper dignity and happiness. In addition to financial gifts to the home, we have collected over two thousand large print books, video, and audio devices with disks and tapes for their entertainment. We also raised money to purchase a large screen television for their viewing pleasure. Elmer Timberman Lodge has also has started a program to provide a bus for field trips. Using the Lodge Facilities for Private Parties

The Elmer Timberman Masonic Lodge No.54 supports our community by making our facilities available for family celebrations and other types of meetings and entertainment activies. Our facilities have been used for weddings, religous services, bridge parties, sweet sixteen parties, and other social occasions.

Our rental rates are very attractive.

Brethren,

March was a good month for Elmer Timberman Lodge, despite the harsh weather we had. Wor. Carlos M. Roncal and members of Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge #92, FAAM of DC, were the guests of the evening. Daniel Aysanoa, PM, talked about the history of their lodge as a focal point for Spanish speaking members not just in the DC area, but in Latin America and Spain. Then on March 25, we had our first Called Communication for initiating a candidate to the Degrees of Freemasonry. I would like to thank the Brethren, more especially our DIW, WB Mike King, PM, for taking part of the Degree.

April’s Stated theme was “Scottish Rite Night”. We had the pleasure to hear WB John T. Tillery, PM of Mt. Vernon Lodge #219 and Preceptor of the Alexandria Consistory of the Alexandria Scottish Rite Valley. He talked about why he joined Scottish Rite Masonry and the benefits of being a Scottish Rite Mason. His talk was well received.

Our May Stated will be “Law Enforcement Night”. The speaker will be MWB Jesse Villarreal, Past Grand Master of Mason in DC in 2011 and a retired Officer of the DC Metropolitan Police Force. This will be open to the public, so invite your friends, family and more especially, if you know someone in the law enforcement field, invite them as well so we can recognize them. Our June Stated will be the Official Visit of the District Blood Coordinator & District MAHOVA Representative to our Lodge.

Just a reminder that the Grand Master of Masons of VA makes his official visit to District 1A, 1B and 54 on May 11 at 6:00 P.M. in the Scottish Rite Temple, 1430 W. Braddock Road in Alexandria. If you want tickets for the event, just call me on the List of Officers or e-mail me at pabloarocha1992@outlook.com . The Grand Master wants us to invite the widows as well, so please call me so I can reserve you a ticket.

Brethren,

We had the honor of Right Worshipful Donald F. Ritenour, DDGM of Masonic District 1-B, making his official visit to our Lodge at our January Stated. He conveyed the greetings of the Grand Master to us and stressed his theme "Masonry's Youth is Masonry's Future" and the DDGM’s goal of creating a Master and Wardens Associations for this District. We also had a ceremony of the 50-Year Veterans Award for Brother Kenneth M. Adams, which our DDGM had the honor of presenting to Brother Adams.

At our February Stated, we had Wor. Adam C. Duncan, PM of Andrew Jackson Lodge, as our speaker . He spoke on the Last Will and Testament of President (and Brother) George Washington. It was well received and questions were asked.

Our March Stated will feature a talk on the "History of Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge #92." Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge just celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its founding as the first Spanish-speaking lodge in the Washington, DC area. The Master and members of that lodge will come to visit to our lodge.

Our April stated will be "Scottish Rite Night." I'm planning to have Illustrious (and Most Worshipful) Brother Edmund Cohen to be the Speaker.

Hope to see you at the two Stated Communications. As you know, dinner starts at 6:00pm. A donation of $7.00 will cover the cost of the meal. Call our Junior Deacon if you planning to come for dinner so he can have a headcount for food.

January Stated - Must Attend - DDGM Visit

The District Deptuty Grand Master, RW Donald Ford Ritenour, for District 1B will be making his official visit with Elmer Timberman Lodge during its January Stated Communication on January 28th. The Worshipful Master invites all Brethren to attend this communication. Of course, any and all Master Masons are welcome!!

Don't forget that we have an informal dinner before the communication. Dinner starts at 6 PM, with the communication starting at 7:30 PM. Please RSVP to the Junior Warden if you plan to come to dinner so we can have an accurate headcount for food.

From the East: January - February 2013

Brethren,

I would like to thank the Brethren, families and guests for attending our Installation on December 15, 2012. I would more especially like to thank the young men of Woodlawn Chapter of DeMolay and the Job’s Daughters of Bethel No. 51, for taking part in the Installation ceremony. I would also like to thank the Sisters and Brethren of Faith Chapter No. 177, Order of the Eastern Star, for preparation of the food, and Mary Wilkinson for the beautiful cake she made.

After the Installation was over, I handed the gavel to Charles E. Wilkinson III, PM, to do the presentation of the 60-Year Veteran Certificate and Pin to WB E. A. “Doc” Viereck.

As I mentioned above, our first Stated of the year is on January 28 and it will be the Official Visit of the DDGM of District 1-B, Rt. Wor. Donald Ford Ritenour, to our Lodge. He will be talking on our Grand Master’s theme “Masonry’s Youth, Masonry’s Future” I will also be talking about my plan for the year, so come and support our DDGM.

Our District Leadership Conference will be on Saturday, January 26, at the Alexandria Scottish Rite Temple; registration starts at 8:30 AM. It is very important that the Elected Officers of Elmer Timberman Lodge attend this conference. All brethren are welcome to come. For more information, contact RWB John Shroeder.

For our February Stated, WB Adam C. Duncan, PM of Andrew Jackson Lodge No. 120, will do a talk on the Last Will and Testament of President (and Brother) George Washington. I had a chance to hear his talk and I found it fascinating. This program will be open to the public, so please invite your family and friends.

Installation of Officers at ETL 54

On December 15, 2012, Elmer Timberman Lodge No. 54 installed its newly elected officers for 2013. The event was well attended by many Brethren, family, and friends. Perceiving the need for a Masonic Lodge in Annandale, a number of Masons who regularly patronized the little 10' x10' post office located in Joe Mettaurers filling station began collecting the signatures of Masons living in Northern Virginia for the purpose of petitioning the Grand Lodge of Virginia to start a new Lodge in Annandale.

In the early 1950's, Annandale was a bedroom community of Washington D. C. Many of the Masons who picked up their mail at the little post office worked for the Federal Government and had relocated to Fairfax County from other locations.

Eighty Masons petitioned the Grand Lodge of Virginia for a charter in December 1952. The future Lodge in Annandale would be named Elmer Timberman Lodge in honor of Right Worshipful J. E. W. Timberman, a prominent and active Mason who operated a drug store in Alexandria, Virginia.

On December 12, 1952, The District Deputy Grand Master Frank McNulty Steadman of Kemper Lodge No. 64, Falls Church, Virginia received the dispensation and charter from the Grand Lodge. The Lodge opened in the North Room of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, Virginia, on December 15, 1952, with Right Worshipful Steadman presiding. Worshipful Charles Calvin Whitmer was installed Worshipful Master by Right Worshipful Brother Timberman, who was also the first person formally received by the new Worshipful Master. Brother Timberman thanked the Lodge and was deeply honored.
